Best 1 GB eSIM for the USA: small plans compared

If you only need a little data in the US (maps, messages, email, a few days of travel), a 1 GB eSIM is often enough. We compared the smallest US plans from four eSIM providers using each one's own website, plus Red Pocket as a monthly phone-plan reference. We sell one of these (Zap eSIM), and it isn't the cheapest at 1 GB, so we've kept this list in price order.

Our picks

  • Cheapest 1 GB, and longest validity: RedteaGO's data-only 1 GB plan at $1.60 for 30 days.
  • Cheap 1 GB in a polished app: Saily (US$3.99 for 7 days) or Airalo ($4.00 for 3 days).
  • Need calls and texts too: RedteaGO's 1 GB calls-and-texts plan ($5.50, 7 days) or Airalo's 1 GB + 10 min + 10 SMS ($6.00, 3 days). For an ongoing phone line with a number, a monthly plan such as Red Pocket's may suit you better.
  • Pay with Bitcoin Lightning, no account: Zap eSIM, 1 GB for 7 days at $0.90. You pay a Lightning invoice and the eSIM is delivered instantly on your order page. If you need more later, you can top up the same eSIM.

Is 1 GB enough?

For light use, maps, messaging and email, 1 GB can last several days. Video streaming and video calls use data much faster, so if you plan to stream, a 3 GB plan or bigger is safer. Zap eSIM's next sizes up are 3 GB for 30 days ($8.49) and 5 GB for 30 days ($11.99). For a short, heavy-use trip there's also Unlimited for 7 days ($17.99): the first 2 GB each day at full speed, then up to 1 Mbps (best effort, often lower).
