The honest verdict
For fixed amounts of data, Nomad costs less than Zap eSIM at every size both sell, with the same validity: 1 GB for 7 days is $0.50 less ($5.00 vs $5.50), 3 GB for 30 days is $2.49 less ($6 vs $8.49), 5 GB for 30 days is $1.99 less ($10 vs $11.99), and 10 GB for 30 days is $4.99 less ($15 vs $19.99). Nomad also has larger plans, shorter unlimited plans, and an app, and its US page advertises a free 1 GB trial eSIM for new users (check Nomad's terms).
For a week of unlimited data, Zap eSIM costs less: $17.99 vs Nomad's $23.00 for 7 days, $5.01 less, with the same stated daily allowance (2 GB a day at full speed, then up to 1 Mbps; Zap eSIM's slower speed is best effort and often lower).
Beyond price, the main difference is how you pay. Zap eSIM takes a Bitcoin Lightning invoice from any Lightning wallet, with no account needed and no ID, and the eSIM appears instantly on your order page. Nomad's payment-methods page lists cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal, and doesn't list Bitcoin.

A private, secure connection, explained plainly: the private part is the checkout. You don't need an account or ID, and you pay with Bitcoin over Lightning instead of a card. The secure part is the standard encryption mobile networks use on the link between your phone and the network. It isn't a VPN and doesn't hide your activity from the mobile network. How do the unlimited plans compare?

Nomad's US page lists unlimited plans for 3 days ($11), 5 days ($16) and 7 days ($23); its plan details say 2 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps, with high-speed data resetting every 24 hours from activation.
Can I pay for Nomad with Bitcoin?
Nomad's Help Center lists major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB and UnionPay), Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal. It doesn't list Bitcoin or other crypto. Zap eSIM is paid with Bitcoin over the Lightning Network.
Do I need an account for Nomad or Zap eSIM?
Nomad's Help Center says you can create an account or check out as a guest, and Nomad says its eSIMs don't require KYC checks. Zap eSIM doesn't need an account and has no KYC: your eSIM is delivered instantly on your order page, and you save that link as your receipt and for top-ups. A Zap eSIM account is optional.
Is my connection private and secure?
Checkout is private: no account, no ID (no KYC), no email needed, and you pay with Bitcoin over Lightning instead of a card. Bitcoin payments aren't anonymous, but you don't hand over a name, card or ID to buy. The connection is a normal mobile data connection: traffic between your phone and the mobile network is encrypted as standard. It isn't a VPN or end-to-end encryption, and the mobile network still carries your traffic and can see connection details. For extra privacy online, use a VPN or encrypted apps on top. See our privacy policy for what we do collect.
